"Maryam Entezami, born in Oroumieh - Iran, is a fashion designer well known for her research and re-design on Persian historical women costumes. As a woman who was born in Iran, grew up in Turkey, lives in the Netherlands and works internationally, Maryam is truly an exemplar of the global citizen. When the world is your framework, your roots and heritage become increasingly important because they determine your identity within the global community. For this reason, she passionately combines her profession of fashion design with her insatiable quest for researching Persian culture, history and fashion.

Maryam’s first successful presentation of ethnic Persian clothing was in 1997 at the Veils Unveiled exhibition at the Museum of Anthropology in Leiden. Subsequently, she was invited to show her collection in various museums and cultural foundations throughout the Netherlands, including the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden, the Wereld Museum in Rotterdam, and other European countries. She has also presented her work on Persian TV channels both in the UK and the USA.

Driven by her personal interests, Maryam has studied the history of Persian women's clothing, from the Elamite period (2700-538 B.C.) through to the Pahlavi dynasty (1925-1979). This project started in 1998 and continues to this day. One of her dreams is to write a simple informative book on the history of Persian fashion so that she may share her work, knowledge and insights with an international audience. The number of emails that Maryam receives from her fans – especially from Iran – has thus encouraged her to start this project: "Living Artifacts – the lost fashion of Persia."

A Dutch filmmaker made the documentary "Unraveled" about Maryam’s research on historical Persian women's costume. Maryam was also honored by being granted an interview with former Empress Farah Pahlavi of Iran about Her Imperial Majesty’s costume for this documentary. With the trailer of the film being chosen as official festival winner of the Direct Short Online Film, Festival, it has also been selected for the Berlin Short Film Festival, the Iranian Film Festival, the European Short Film Festival, the Paris Independent film Festival en the Noor Iranian- American Film Festival in the USA.

Maryam is interested in collaborating with film makers, TV, museums, cultural foundations and fashion schools."
